This prop was built in around 2013 or 2014 when I was 19 or 20. It was one of my first big projects, but I lacked a lot of tools and knowledge. Most of the parts were purchased and modified before assembly and finishing. There’s very little scratch-building in this project. This was made within a community where these builds were commonplace, so I didn’t document it as thoroughly as some others. Still, it looks pretty good to this day.
It was based on a shell made by two of my local friends, 7heads10horns, and Larzl995. For their build thread, visit http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=34982

This isn’t my first proton pack. My first one, I made a few years earlier. In this pic, you can see how much nicer the base shell is on this second attempt.

In the pic above, you can see that there are horizontal ribs along the top left section of the pack, next to the blue light. In the film, Dan Aykroyd’s pack has some paint chipped away, revealing bare fiberglass on the caps of two of these ribs. I love the look of the light shining through that area of the pack, so I started by sanding off the caps of two of my pack’s fins, so I could replace them with transparent acrylic.

After tinting with some translucent yellow spray paint, and dirtying up the edges, I was left with this look, which is quite convincingly fiberglass-like:

Here’s a nice shot of the shell, including some holes that I drilled in the large circular part called the cyclotron, to match Bill Murray’s pack from the first film:

I spent some time mounting parts onto the shell:

I mounted the back panel, or “motherboard” to the shell:

Finally, it was time to paint the aluminum parts:

And there it is, all ready to bust some heads, in a spiritual sense, of course.
